It's a challenge for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The top summits have long been mastered.

We're talking about the team that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, along with an additional six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed 1,294 days undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, the ones sought by the achievement hunters, are what's still available for a team that has won it all.

That it took as late as Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase exceeding 300, regaining their record for the biggest in the female 50-over format, is, in truth, a tribute to the bowlers that have represented Australia over five decades.

It is hard for their hitters to maintain a record if not afforded the possibility.

Ultimately, the consequence of Australia giving up 330 runs was leader Alyssa Healy getting a chance to produce her newest gem.

Initially recognized as the teenage relative of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after Australia didn't secure either of the T20 or ODI World Cups held the previous year and has experienced everything through 15 trophy-laden years since.

A T20 championship victory came three months after her bow and seven international trophies have come from 10 efforts across formats.

The determined wicketkeeper was in attendance in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India briefly halted the winning streak.

That loss "motivated us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy said this week.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the title decider and was named player of the tournament. She made sure her country would not come up short.

If this latest epic knock surpassed that earlier display can be debated.

Some will argue the argument supporting final game tension. Different voices suggest with the test that comes when facing a record target and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What's definite is this ton was far harder to predict.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 happened while she led the batting statistics, but this knock was preceded by six games in India since the start of last month in which she had failed to pass 30.

"If you've been watching me in practice sessions, it was a challenging time because it appeared I've had no rhythm at all," commented Healy.

"Yet the moment you step out on the field, your competitive nature take over and you just lock into the competition."

Healy's competitive nature has always been her great strength - and an irreplaceable characteristic in taking over from legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, dismissed by the emerging pace bowler in all three matches, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's spark.

A single came off the opening delivery and after that the batsman was on her way.

"The possibility to go out there and engage in competition with her and just have a bit of fun in that regard, kind of motivated me," said Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 deliveries - her fastest at the World Cup - and her ton in 84 balls as she flogged anything short, scoring 21 fours and three big hits.

Once she was dismissed her side needed 66 additional runs at run per delivery - an achievable target now demanding an easy conclusion.

"To chase 330 is unfamiliar ground so I am glad we have the confidence to achieve that now," stated Healy further.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it another time but, should it happen, we know we can succeed."

These statements will be the last competing nations at this tournament want to hear.

Over the past five days a belief they will succeed regardless of circumstances has become more firm - this victory following success over Pakistan by 107 run margin despite sitting at 76-7 at a certain moment.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before an encounter with longtime competitors England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a semi-final berth may well be secure.

During that phase they were eliminated from the previous year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a match Healy was absent due to torn tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the initial instance at a significant event.

So strong is her resolve, she subsequently stated she regretted not playing despite the injury.

But while she subsequently acknowledged those fitness problems have pushed back plans to retire, this tournament is likely to be her concluding event as leader in ODI cricket and she is still to achieve a world championship as leader.

Triumph in India would bring her to the top of her final mountain.
